What is the purpose of www.AIDSHousingLA.org?
This site was developed to provide a centralized,
countywide housing information clearinghouse.
AIDSHousingLA.org provides referral information
to the entire range of housing services - from
emergency and transitional to hospice and permanent
housing. AIDSHousingLA.org contains a Housing
Search database, which details resources and
services available to case managers, housing
counselors and people living with HIV/AIDS.
How does this site work?
AIDSHousingLA.org is divided
into 6 major sections. The "How
to Use this Site” page – is
a good place to start because it contains a
tutorial that explains "How
to Use this Site", "About
this Site," the "Guestbook" and "Frequently
Asked Questions"(where
you are now). If this is your first time visiting
the site,
please take a moment to fill out the Guestbook.
What geographic area does this site serve?
AIDSHousingLA contains information and referrals
within Los Angeles County only.
How do I find AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs)
in Los Angeles County?
Under Fact Sheets; Section
8, go to: “Case
Management: What Agency Do I Contact?” Here
you will find many useful links, including a
map of the county, a list of the Service Planning
Areas
(SPAs) and
a link
to HIVLA.org, which is a great way to find HIV-related
services in Los Angeles County. In general, people
receive Case Management Services for the SPA
they live in, though some
agencies are contracted to provide services on
a County-wide basis. The simplest thing to do
is:
1. Check the Map to see what SPA you live in.
2. Check out HIVLA.org to see what agencies are
the Case Managers for your SPA, and
3. Call that agency.

California. Can AIDSHousingLA.org helps me locate
housing in my area?
AIDHousingLA. contains information and referrals
only within Los Angeles County.
If you need assistance
locating an AIDS Service Provider in your local
area and you are not located
in Los Angeles County you might want to search
the Internet for resources. An excellent Internet
search engine is located at www.google.com.
How do I find an apartment? I need help in my
search for an apartment, where do I begin?
Use the Housing

to view available units in Los Angeles County
or to conduct a search
of the database. This page provides information
on available units in Los Angeles County. The
listings are sorted by a various criteria such
as Current Apartment Listings, Affordable Units,
Shared Housing, etc.
Please note: AIDSHousingLA.org
is meant is a resource for Persons Living with
HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County. While we are
happy to provide information on available units,
we do not actively locate residences for people
looking for housing. If you are a person living
with HIV/AIDS and need additional assistance
in your search for housing, your local AIDS Service
Provider should be able to assist you further.

What are considered “affordable” rental
units?
The Fair Market Rate (FMR) in greater Los Angeles
area is quite high and housing is expensive.
In general, the listings on this site are any
units (singles, one bedroom and two bedrooms)
that rent for under $1000.
How frequently are
the HousingSearch™ listings updated?
Current Apartment Listings for L.A. County -
(.html) - 3 times weekly.
Shared Housing Listings for L.A. County (.html)
- twice weekly, usually on Wednesday's and Thursday's
by the close of the business day.
Section 8 Vacancy List - County of Los Angeles
Housing Authority(.pdf) - either weekly or bi-monthly
depending upon how frequently the County of Los
Angeles Housing Authority updates their lists.
List of Section 8 Properties for L.A. County
by City/Neighborhood/Zip (.pdf). – annually.
This list is a compilation of Section 8 properties
(not individual units for rent) from the US Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
List of Property Management Companies that Accept
Section 8 in L.A. County (.pdf), - as often as
is possible. These are Property Management Companies
accepting Section 8 or other forms of subsidies.
Property Management/Leasing Companies (non-Section
8) (.pdf) – periodically.
These are Property Management / Leasing companies
that currently
handle affordable apartment and Section 8 listings.
Why are some of the Properties on List of Section
8 Properties for L.A. County by City/Neighborhood/Zip
(.pdf) no longer accepting Section 8?
These properties are
a compilation of Section 8 listings from the
Department of Housing and
Urban Development (HUD), HUD only update their
listings once a year. Many times the listed property
may have “opted out” of the Section
8 program and no longer participate in Section
8. If you are aware of a property which is no
longer participating in the Section 8 Program,

Are there other ways to search this site for
an affordable apartment?
Yes, under Links go to: “Searchable Sites
for Permanent Housing”: Internet Apartment
Finder Sites. This is a great way to search for
an affordable apartment, most of these Internet
Apartment finder site are free and you can search
by city/area, price range, amenities and even
with pets.
Listing a Unit for Rent
I am an owner/management company wishing to list
a rental unit with AIDSHousingLA. Where do
I begin?
With housing for people with HIV/AIDS always
in demand, AIDSHousingLA.org will list you property
free of charge, in any of the databases. AIDSHousingLA.org
will also come out to a property management company
to present and explain the services and programs.

I am a landlord and I would like to accept Section
8. Where do I start?
Contact either the County
of Los Angeles Housing Authority or the City
of Los Angeles Housing

Looking for a Roommate
Does AIDSHousingLA.org offer a roommate service?
AIDSHousingLA does not offer a roommate matching
service, however, the Shared Housing listings
under the HousingSearch database gives listings
of individuals with rooms to rent.
I have spare room to rent in my home or wish
to share my apartment.
How do I get listed?
Either email lromero@apla.org or mail to: AIDS

Kingsley Drive Los Angeles, CA 90005, a copy
of the ad, the way you would like it to read.
Also please enclose a daytime contact phone number,
AIDSHousingLA will need to speak with the listing
party before the ad is placed. See example below:

I am looking for an apartment that accepts Section
8. Will AIDSHousingLA.org find an apartment for
me?
We do not actively locate
residential units for people looking for housing.
As a resource
and referral-clearing house, there is information
on this site to help people with their Internet
search for housing. If you are a person living
with HIV/AIDS and need additional assistance
in your search for housing, your local AIDS Service
Provider should be able to assist you.
Where do I start with my search for an apartment
that accepts Section 8?
Start with the
HousingSearch database. There is a List of
Section 8 Properties for L.A.
County
by City/Neighborhood/Zip (.pdf). This is a compilation
of Section 8 properties from the US Department
of Housing and Urban Development. There is also
the List of Property Management Companies that
Accept Section 8 in L.A. County (.pdf). These
are Property Management Companies accepting Section

can’t I access this portion?
This Password protected data is for Case Managers
or Housing Case Managers only, under an agreement
with the County of Los Angeles Housing Authority.
If you are a Case Manager or Housing Case Manager,
and would like to obtain the password, please
call (213) 201-1526 or email lromero@apla.org. A
signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will
be necessary. If you are a client and would like
to view this list, it can be obtained through
your case manager. If your case manager does
not have the passoword, he/she may contact lromero@apla.org.

HOPWA Programs
I understand there are several HOPWA programs.
Which one is right for me?
Investigate the different
HOWPA programs by going to the Programs section
of the site. Each
program provides information on housing-related
programs, services, options and topics, as well
as referrals to an array of housing options including
emergency shelters, transitional housing, independent
living, licensed residential care facilities,
shared housing, sober living facilities, hospices
and skilled nurse facilities, among others. If
you need additional information about a program,
you should contact your case manager or housing
specialist. If you do not have a case manager
and you need assistance locating an AIDS Service
Provider in Los Angeles County, please click
